   ALL BLACKS FUN DAY

On all blacks fun day Ali williams and Ben franks came to Motueka. we played a tsunami of games. We only played them like all day. Some of the teachers from parklands dressed up in black at the recreation centre. Some of the activites we did was ripper tag. We had turns on these bmx bikes and went over jumps and ramps and kids got to see their friends from other schools. It was awesome. I hope we do it again some day. GOOOO!!!!!!!!! BLAAAACCCKKKK!!!!!!!

Setting:

The setting takes place in modern day Manhattan

Plot:

The story is about a sorcerer named Balthazard Blake searching for the prime Merlinian who will inherit Merlins power's and one day defeat Morgana le Fey and the threat she poses to the world.

Main characters:

Balthazard Blake[Merlin's apprentice], Veronica [good sorceress], Horvath [the traitor]
Dave Stutler [prime Merlinian], Bekky [Dave's girlfriend], Morgana le Fey [evil sorceress].

My chosen character is Balthazard Blake because he's classy and can keep his cool in any situation.

I chose this movie because its got cool spells and magical items, and the spells are most realistic as opposed to Harry Potter.

Title:Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Age suitable for: 7+
Settings: In an imaginary setting.

The story is about a beatiful girl and a bad Queen who wants to kill her, because she was jealous of snow white. Snow White runs away in the forest. She finds a little cottage where the seven Dwarfs live. She sneaks in the cottage and she finds that a kettle is boiling and hanging on a hook in side a fire place. Snow White goes up stairs and she finds seven small beds along the wall and she turns around and finds seven weird looking dwarfs staring at her. They all head outside to watch the stars shine and Snow White sings the Dwarfs a little melody. They all tried not cry . Then they walked up stairs and fell asleep. Snow White feels sleepy and falls asleep. The next day Snow White wakes up with the dwarfs right in front of her beautiful face. She gets a little fright then giggles. The evil Queen finds out that Snow White is the most beautiful of all by looking in her her magic mirror. The bad queen tries to capture her and the queen finds out that Snow White is living with seven Dwarfs. The queen turned herself in to a witch and got a poison apple ready for her. The bad went to search for her and she goes into the forest and enters in the dwarfs house. The bad queen poisoned Snow White. Snow White faints and falls to the ground. The queen runs away and the dwarfs chase after her. The evil queen falls off the cliff. The prince kisses Snow White and she becomes alive and they all live happily ever after. (:

In the imaginary past

plot: About a beautiful girl and a Queen that wants to kill the princess Snow White comes across a cottage and decides to clean it up and doesn't know that it belong to small, but very intelligent dwarfs. They first meet her when she was laying on one of the dwarfs beds she is very tired after cleaning all day. Then one fine day Snow White finds this handsome prince and falls in love with him they have planed to see each other under the apple tree and will meet him after she cleans the cottage.When Snow White had finished cleaning she goes out and finds the prince and she comes across the Queen who is disguise as a very ugly old woman and says that if she eats the apple she gets happiness so Snow White bites the apple and fall into a dark sleep. The dwarfs get worried and search for snow they find her under the tree and all lift her up and carry her back to the cottage and only her true love can awake her with just one kiss, so they set out to find the prince and find him they tell him that Snow White has fallen into a dark sleep, he quickly races back to the cottage and kiss her and she awakes and she tells him that the queen gave her an apple and the prince kills the queen and they live happily ever after.

This is my chosen book for book week

Title and author : Percy Jackson and the lightning thief by Rick Riordan

Suitable for ages 10-13

Setting(where and when) : Manhattan, New York in the present year

Plot: Percy Jackson is the son of Poseidon who is one of the big three Hades, Zeus and Poseidon, but he doesn't know it until one day someone steals Zeus' master bolt which is more destructive than any nuclear bomb. Zeus blames Poseidon but he says he is innocent. Then Zeus claims that he will start a war that will turn earth into a gods' battlefield. Poseidon has no other choice but to claim Percy as his son and Percy is asked if he will accept a quest that may save the world from the gods' wrath.

Main characters : Percy Jackson (the hero and son of Posiedon), Grover( Satyr and good friend) and Annabeth (good friend and daughter of Athena)

Chosen Character(with reason of choosing) : Percy Jackson because he is really cool powers and lives in a very interesting world only he can see and we are also the same age

This is my book, and it is by Cressida Cowell,

This book is set in the ocean.

Suitable ages 10 to 12

The story is about Hiccup having to do a big swimming race and it is to see who can swim the furtherest out and make it back alive there are killer dragons,freezing cold water and they are in full body armour and weapons on as well.

His crazy grandfather wants him to stay out in the sea and not return for three months five days and six hours.
But a dragon kidnaps Hiccup, Fish legs and Kamikaze and takes him to Norbert the nut job and his crew of pirates.

Norbert is traveling to America an plans on killing Hiccup when he gets there.
Meanwhile Mad Guns has won and the only hope is that Hiccup makes it back alive.

My favorite character is Toothless because he is small, looks cool and is helpful.

The Whanau sang some Maori songs for the three American student teachers. One of the songs were Hurihurihaere where you have to massage each other. Matua Dean chose three people to go and massage the student teachers. We showed them how to use Manakitanga(Hospitality)also how to do our Turangawaewae. The Whanau girls did the poi for the American teachers .I think that the teachers liked our little performance. They should have stayed longer.

1. History of the whanau at Parklands, by Kyla.

The whanau started in 1989. The idea began, in 1988, on a boat which was a rescue vessel for a sailing programme at a Marahau camp. Larry Bailey was the Maori representatve on the Parklands Board of Trustees. With her was Brian Bailey, the then principal of the school. After some talk we agreed to start Maori language and kapahaka. We were very lucky to have Aunty Mere who taught 10 language groups throughout the school. At the end of the year, working with Sue Pryde, the resource teacher of Maori, and who encouraged the concept from the beginning, it was decided to set up a Whanau class.

2. WHAT THE WHANAU STANDS FOR

Te whānau o Pakarana is a bi-lingual unit that offers education through Te reo me ona tikanga. We are dedicated to quality education for all our tamariki (children) and we plan to suit the individual learning styles of the children. The unit is nurtured in tikanga Māori (customs and protocols) by our Kaiarahireo (leader of the language) Aunty Mere Kingi. Our Whakatoki (proverb) is 'Whaia te iti kahurangi' Strive for excellence.

This video shows: A New Zealand Choir teaching Americans a rakau game.

Tikanga
Tī rākau was viewed not only as a game and useful exercise for young men, but it was also practised by girls. Young women found that its use was beneficial because it made them active, supple and improved their agility for performing kapa haka.

These games consist of the rhythmic throwing and catching of sticks from person to person.

In olden times:

served as a way of training young warriors to catch enemies' spears in battle.
the players stood or knelt in a circle
as the tempo of the chant increased, those who dropped their sticks dropped out of the game
last person in was the winner
sticks 3 feet (90 cm) long were used
was known as tītī touretua in Tūhoe country, and tītī tourea in Northland.
(tītī to-ure-tua has phallic connotations, ure; penis)
Ngāti Porou called it poi rākau

In more recent times:

they have been an entertainment at concerts
sticks one foot long (30 cm) are used
players usually sit on the ground facing each other
but they do stand in the stick dance Hoea te Waka.

Stick game songs are called waiata poi rākau or tītī tōrea. The game and song, "Titi-Torea" can be found on pages 74-77 in Games for Girl Scouts, published by Girl Scouts of the USA.

This haka is about some of the Maori gods and what they control. Tanemahuta is the god of the forestry, Tawhirimatea is the god of the wind, Tumatauenga is the god of war and man, Tangaroa is the god of the ocean. They are the the main gods in this haka. Near the end there are lower gods like Rongomatane, Haumietikitiki, Ruomoko and koropupu and there is one very high god Io Matua Kore [the creator]

The actions show the significance of the Maori gods in this haka.
